Hartlepool has always punched above its weight in sport. Behind every achievement are people who make it possible: coaches giving up their evenings, volunteers keeping clubs running, and organisations helping residents get active, feel included and build confidence.

The Gus Robinson Hartlepool Sport Awards 2026 are our chance to celebrate them — and this year, we’re widening the spotlight.

More categories, more people recognised

This year’s expanded categories recognise even more of the amazing people and organisations within Hartlepool’s community.

Alongside sporting achievement, coaching and volunteering, we’re celebrating early years activity, inclusive opportunities, youth leadership and the people caring for our environment. These awards reflect the many ways sport, play and community action help our town thrive.

Celebrating sporting achievement

The Primary School Sports Person and Secondary School Sports Person of the Year awards recognise pupils whose effort, achievement and sportsmanship inspire those around them.

For adults, Sports Personality of the Year (16 years+) celebrates an outstanding local sportsperson’s achievements, dedication and attitude.

Outstanding Club of the Year and Outstanding Team of the Year recognise collective success, teamwork and community pride, while Coach of the Year celebrates someone helping participants develop their skills and confidence.

Recognising the people behind the scenes

Local sport relies on people who turn up, lend a hand and give their time.

Young Volunteer of the Year and the Keith Hewitson Volunteer of the Year honour that commitment. Services to Sport recognises a lasting contribution that has created opportunities for others over many years.

If someone quietly keeps things going at your club or activity, this could be your opportunity to give them the recognition they deserve.

Helping everyone get active

The EYFS Trail Blazer – Organisation award celebrates creative movement and play that give Hartlepool’s youngest children an active start , aimed at organisations working with 0-5 year olds.

The Inclusivity Innovation Award recognises fresh ideas that remove barriers and welcome more people into activities. Move Mania School of the Year celebrates a school’s commitment to getting every pupil moving.

Together, these categories recognise the work that makes being active accessible, enjoyable and part of everyday life.

Making a difference in our communities

The Young Person for Change (Team Up for Change Award) celebrates a young person using their voice and leadership to create positive change.

Community Champion – Organisation recognises work that brings Hartlepool residents together and improves wellbeing.

We’re also celebrating those looking after our town’s future. Climate and Nature Wellbeing Champion – Individual recognises someone protecting our environment and connecting people with nature, while Young Person Green Champion honours a young person whose environmental action inspires others.

Who deserves a nomination?

Think about the people making a difference around you. The coach who gives someone confidence. The volunteer who is always there. The young person turning an idea into action. The organisation helping neighbours connect.

Their contribution might be widely celebrated, or it might happen quietly each week. Either way, a nomination is a chance to say: we see what you do, and it matters.

Nominations close at 11:59 pm on 31 October 2026.

Explore the categories and submit your nomination at www.hartlepoolsport.co.uk.

Help us celebrate the people who keep Hartlepool active, connected and proud.
