Join The Movement

Hartlepool’s Join the Movement network is a collaboration between local & regional partners who share a common interest in addressing health inequalities and improving wider social outcomes – by improving physical & mental health through getting more people moving, more often. The network meets every two or so months. The gap in Hartlepool’s partnership infrastructure focused on improving physical activity motivated the formation of Join The Movement.

The network is relatively young, having held a handful of meetings so far, and agreed upon three main priorities:

  • Reducing obesity amongst children and adults

    • Initial work is based on Hartlepool United Community Sports Foundation’s Fit Families developed by Keith Nobbs.

  • Improving long term health conditions

    • Initial work is developing social prescribing pathways – to improve pathways for referrals to physical activity opportunities from entry level up to Hartlepool sport clubs – to support individuals to introduce more movement into their daily activities & general lifestyle.

  • Improving Mental Health & Wellbeing

    • Initial work is establishing the Walk into Wellness Network – to support and develop organisations offering walking opportunities to Hartlepool residents. The network also aims to improve communications about walking opportunities & increase access to regular walking for Hartlepool residents, including people working in statutory and voluntary sector organisations.

The group is open to all and meets regularly.

Key partners are The PFC Trust / Hartlepool Sport, Hartlepower, Tees Valley Sport, StreetGames, Sported, Hartlepool United Community Sports Foundation, Hartlepool Borough Council, Sustrans, The NHS Waiting Well Team, the 3 Hartlepool Primary Care Networks and clubs and other providers.
